The emerging technologies making an impact on how we use and create power

The government’s first emissions reduction plan states that ‘by 2035, all new cars will be low or zero emissions’ with a further target to increase zero-emission vehicles to 30% of the light vehicle fleet by 2035. Intentions point toward the population moving in the right direction, with 6% already in EVs and 57% considering purchase in the next 10 years. However, the number of combustion vehicles leaving the fleet is going to have to be massive.
Solar/photovoltaic panels and battery energy storage systems also look to have relatively high adoption rates in the near future.

Technology for the home is developing rapidly. Adoption rates have a huge impact on how much power we use, how much we demand from our network providers, and therefore what the future of these networks need to look like.
